Audrey Rose-Watson
Audrey has been passionate about the ocean and animals for as long as she can remember. Audrey completed a Bachelor of Science in biology at Macquarie University in 2018. She has volunteered on several projects including seawall habitat characteristics on the ‘Living Seawalls’ project and examining the role of alga in intertidal assemblages. She has also collaborated on a project for NSW Department of Primary Industries with the global company Cardno, looking at recreational fishing marine debris on a global and local scale.
Audrey is undertaking her Masters of Research with the MEG lab. Her project, encompassing both marine ecology and environmental science, is looking at the impacts of marine debris in commercially important Australian fish. Little is known about the prevalence of plastics in many Australian fish. This research aims to increase our knowledge of plastics in fish tissue, particularly tissues outside of the gut, such as the muscle tissue which we consume. Given our commercial and recreational reliance on many of these species it is important to establish whether such debris is impacting these fishes.
