Prof Jane Williamson

Jane is a conservationist, marine ecologist and fisheries biologist at MQ, with over 30 years of experience assessing the healthy functioning of our oceans, understanding the human-induced challenges they face and finding innovative solutions to reducing human impacts on marine resources.

She chairs the NSW Fisheries Scientific Committee, which lists threatened aquatic species, populations, ecological communities and key threatening processes. She also holds a position on the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS) and has since its inception in 2005. She is Chair of the Scientific Committee for the Australian Marine Science Association (AMSA) Conference to be held in Sydney in 2021. Jane is a member of the Technical Advisory Panel for Plastic Oceans Australasia and sits on the editorial boards for the journals Oceans and Remote Sensing.

Jane is passionate about the marine environment and is committed to ensure that scientific knowledge is transparently integrated into management decision making. She optimistically believes that humans still have the capacity to make the world a better place.
