What We Do

We do lab and field based research along the East Coast of Australia and have a range of facilities and equipment on-hand to facilitate our research.

MEG Laboratory

The MEG laboratory is well equipped for ecological and physiological research. Infrastructure includes a drying oven, centrifuge, scientific balances (weighing from 5 mg to 0.00001 g), stereo and research microscopes with video capabilities, a high performance computer for image analysis, a constant temperature room and facilities for processing tissue for a range of techniques, including genomics and stable isotope analysis.

Seawater Facility

MEG has direct access to Macquarie University’s recirculating seawater facility (SWF) for conducting controlled experiments and housing marine specimens. More about the SWF can be found here.

Field Equipment

In addition to the usual ecological field gear, we have a wide range of remote sensing equipment including drones, a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV), GoPros™ and infrastructure for BRUVs. We have access to a DIVING-PAM-II underwater fluorometer. University boats and dive gear are available for qualified users. As a member of the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS), MEG members also have access to the range of SIMS facilities.
