First starting out volunteering at game fishing tournaments as part of his undergrad degree, Tristan has worked closely with the New South Wales Game Fishing Association and the many anglers and clubs for over 6 years. Through this partnership, Tristan’s main research focus has been on the fisheries and ecology of different game species, primarily the three marlin species, but also tuna, sharks, and other species.

Tristan is currently undertaking a PhD and researching how the east coast marlin fishery has changed over the last 100 years. Through a mix of fishery, ecological and social science, he will be using historic catch data to understand changes in catch composition and matching those changes the ecology of marlin and shifts in fishing methods and environmental conditions.
